Parent Volunteers

First and foremost, Silverleaf Swim Team is ENTIRELY a parent volunteer-run organization (except for the Coaches), as are all other neighborhood swim teams. Without the help of all parents, the team will not run efficiently.

Swim Meets:  There are a required number of positions that must be filled at every home and away meet, or the meet cannot run. Each swim meet is divided into two halves.  Some parents like to work the entire meet because they get bored otherwise.  You will find that swim meets can be boring if you are just a spectator.  Your child will only swim for a small fraction of the time that you are there.  Before and after each Home meet, there are also set-up and tear down responsibilities that are handled by parents. The Swim Meet Primer on the SAIL website is a great overview of a swim meet and can help new parents understand how a swim meet operates.

For example, for a home meet, there are 95-100 different positions that need to be filled (that is a total for both halves and also pre-meet and post-meet jobs), and we currently have 58 families on our swim team roster.  Therefore, we need everyone to pitch in!  We often need both parents to volunteer to make it work.

The goal is to have an equitable spread of swim team duties across all parents.  Parents will sign up for volunteer jobs before each meet.
