    Guppies

Minimum Age Requirement - Children must be at least 4 years old as of September 1st, 2026 to join Guppies.

For younger children who are not quite ready for the swim team, the Guppy program is a better option. The Guppies are typically 4-6 years old and have their own separate practices where they focus on swimming more confidently unassisted, kicking, breathing, floating, and free-style and backstroke basics. Keep in mind that this is a training program for beginners and not necessarily basic swimming lessons. Guppies should want to swim and should be fairly comfortable in the water without any flotation device. Guppies do not participate in the swim team meets. However, the Guppies have 2-3 meets on Saturday mornings in June where they swim with Guppies from a few other teams. These "meets" are very low-key, last an hour or so, and the Coaches or helpers are in the water with the swimmers the entire time. Guppies who show the ability have the option to "move up" and try a swim team meet during the season, but this move is a joint decision between the coaches and parents.

Guppies do not need a team suit. They can wear whatever swimsuit they desire.

    2026 Practice Schedule

    • Practices begin on the afternoon of May 26th and go through June 18th
    • Monday - Wednesday 5:30-6:30pm
    • Thursday 11:00am-12:00pm (Swim Team has meets on Thursday evenings, so we cannot have Guppy practices then)

June 13th 9:00AM at SILVERLEAF (VS Woody Creek)

June 20th 9:00 at PELHAM FALLS

Plan to arrive at the meets by 8:45am.

    Guppy Meets

The Guppies have 2-3 meets on Saturday mornings in June where they swim with Guppies from a few other teams. These "meets" are very low-key, last an hour or so, and the Coaches and/or helpers are in the water with the swimmers the entire time.

    Parent Responsibilities

At the Guppy meets, parents will operate the stopwatches for just the Silverleaf guppies, and they will also write the times on the Ribbons. As said above, the meets are very low-key, and nothing is "official." No training is necessary.

Parents will also rotate bringing a small drink and snack for the kids to have when the meet is over.
